Today is the day when the magic starts to happen in Hornchurch.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Queen’s Theatre in Billet Lane, launches the professional company, Cut to the Chase’, in Dick Whittington, a pantomime by Nicholas Pegg and directed by Bob Carlton.
All the rehearsals are over and the nightly fun and games goes on until Saturday January 11.
The theatre throws all of its resources at this once a year feast of bad jokes, bright lights and fun acting to die for.
Featuring a stellar list of favourite actors, the welcome return of Sarah Scowen and Sam Kordbacheh, add to the mix of Simon Jessop, Lauren Brown, Elliot Harper, Sam Pay and Alison Thea-Skot, and the new theatrical ‘apprentice’ Samuel Ward-Smith, veteran of Community Plays, and scores of other productions for schools and with local groups.
Not only do we have the hero, but Sarah the Cook, the beautiful Alice, King Rat and Fairy Bow Bells who throws fairy dust around like confetti so you may need your umbrella.

Barry, the magic has certainly started. A lovely evening of entertainment for children and adults. Wonderful performances from the whole cast and a toe-tapping, post-show-humming score.
The jokes are at exactly the level one expects (and much over the heads of my watching daughter but not of some of the guides at the back of the auditorium). Scenery and dame-costumes to die for and novelty of a 3-D scene.
Good luck to the cast and theatre for a full-house run.
The children actor/dancer/singers were also very engaging (but I guess I’m biased) and added movement and interest.
