THERE IS nothing better to get in the mood then with Glenn Miller on the gramophone, but there is a chance to hear the live band sound this Sunday in Hornchurch.

Glenn Miller Orchestra 2013 wThe legendary American maestro, stunned the world when he came out with his unique sound of four saxophones and a clarinet in the late 1930s. It rooted dancers to the floor as they listened to the band instead of jigging about.

Glenn Miller was given the war time rank of Colonel and drafted into the forces along with most of his band and, of course, his music. He tragically died when his plane was lost on a flight from Britain to France on December 15, 1944. But the legend lives on and today, the baton has been taken up by Ray McVay, another famous name in big band music.

The band had many famous vocalists and none more so than the Andrews Sisters, and Ray has drafted in the girl group ‘Irresistible’, the bevy of beauties who bowled over Simon Cowell when they reached the semi-finals of the popular TV talent show, Britain’s Got Talent.

Irresistible wWith their own tribute to the era, they will be ringing out many of the favourite  songs made famous by the ‘Sisters’.

The Glenn Miller Band and Irresistible will be giving two concerts at the Queen’s Theatre, Billet Lane, on Sunday December 22 at 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets are £19 and concessions are £17 and available from the box office on 01708 443333.

The show is pure nostalgia.
