Pete Corrigan has regular Sunday lunchtime sessions at the Queen’s Theatre in Billet lane for a mere £4 a ticket or once a month £7.50 when Pete invites well known names for ‘Celebrity Jazz’

Also on the horizon is a group of pure enthusiasts based at Buckhurst Hill Sports and Social Club in Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill, IG9 5BY.

Led by Keith and Chris Neill who publish a regular What’s On jazz gigs and sessions in the south east.

Regular Jazz Jams are held at the Buckhurst Hill centre every Sunday from 7.30 onwards. You can call in and just listen, or if you can play a bit, join in with the musicians.

Keith said: “It’s always an incredible atmosphere: always different, but always the same great fun vibe, and run for the benefit of the jammers rather than as a gig for the house band.

“You don’t have to play, the audience always thoroughly enjoy themselves too. And a family friendly venue too, so please bring along children/grandchildren along. Admission £3, and drinks are at club prices. Free easy local parking.”

Chigwell Jazz Club meet every Tuesday from 8 to 10.30pm at Chigwell Hall, Chigwell High Road IG7 6BD with live bands keeping up the tempo for dancing. Admission is £7.50. Enquiries to Dave Dyer 01945 588325.

The list is long and covers an extensive area in the London’s east end.

Romford’s own Bob Marks (pictured above) leads the LondonBluesJams every Thursday from 9pm and the Golden Lion in Romford Market Place, RM1 1HR. All comers are welcome from beginners to pros and bands. It’s a great night in the pub atmosphere. For information call Bob on 07503 164572.

On a slightly different note, a feast of jazz and big bands appear regularly at the Belvedere Jazz and Music Club every Wednesday at The Chichester Tudor Road, Old London Road, Rawreth near Wickford SS11 8UE.

Coming up on March 5 are Romford’s Lineham Brothers Quintet. Andy and Ryan with Andy’s musicianship well entrenched at the Queen’s Theatre Community group and a regular performer with the Ken Turner Big Band at the Belvedere club.

Another regular Jazz night is Jazz@St Ant’s every Wednesday at St Anthony’s Club, The Red House, 13 Upton Avenue, Forest Gate E7 9PN.
