BONE MARROW DONOR DESPERATELY NEEDED
I could not help but respond to Richard Evans’s appeal for a mother of two called Nikki. She is 41 and in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to fight Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) which she contracted in December. The search is complicated because Nikki is of Irish and Burmese ancestors, so it is going to mean a desperate and ultimately lucky search.

I have complete empathy with Nikki because I also suffe…red from AML but was unbelievably lucky that it was found early. There is no real cure as even transplants are not always guaranteed to work, but the recent discovery of Stem Cells has made a considerable difference. It is not a problem to pass on or share Richard Evans FB appeal or pass on the http://perfecttenmatch.co.uk address above, but it could mean everything to Nikki.
To give you some Idea, I went through four aggressive bouts of chemo-therapy, total body radiation and a pilot experimental scheme where my own bone marrow was used after being irradiated outside the body and re-introduced. The success rate was 25 per cent. That was 22 years ago and even now the thought of the two years of treatment at Barts still haunts me in terms of the unbelievable pain and the many dear friends who did not make it, but I am still here. please give her a chance as this needs to go global.
